Volkswagen Polo R VS Volkswagen Polo R WRC

When it comes to World Rally Championship, the governing body, FIA release certain regulations that the teams have to follow for their cars. In 2011, the FIA released new regulations that ensured every car competing had a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with direct fuel injection.

When it comes to a real contender for the WRC, Volkswagen has a strong car in the Polo R WRC. But how does it compare to its production edition, the Polo R?

Engine – Polo R vs Polo R WRC

With the Polo R WRC comes a 1.6-litre turbocharged straight 4-cylinder engine throwing out 318 bhp. From that power the Polo R WRC can hit 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 200 kph, making it a definite speed demon. The fact it has a four-wheel drive system allows the car to put its power down on whatever surface and still accelerate quickly.

When it comes to the fastest production Polo, the road worthy Polo R comes with a 1.0-litre engine and produces 110 bhp. It might sound like a lot less power; however, this engine can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 9.3 seconds. It also has a top speed of 197 mph. Very impressive from a 1.0-litre petrol engine.

Considering the Production Polo R is a small hatchback compared with its bigger sibling, the Golf, it still has a very impressive interior. This is because Volkswagen have improved the quality of the materials and the overall build of the cabin. Also everything is very easy to use and there is plenty of space for the driver and front passenger and adequate space in the rear. When it comes to the boot, the Polo R has a capacity of 280 litres.

When it comes to the sporty Polo R WRC, you can expect a lighter, simpler and more stable vehicle. It is more stripped out with sports seats and a 5-point racing harness. There isn’t a gearstick. It has been replaced with a gearshift paddle to make gear changing easier. The R WRC also has the engine management system and co driver’s rally computer that logs all the important information.

When it comes to racing exteriors, you are always aware than the racing edition looks bigger, more ferocious and overall more intimidation than the production edition. This is the same with the Polo R WRC. The current Polo R WRC is dominated by a brand new designed wing that improved aerodynamic efficiency, with the rest of the body ensuring that the Polo R WRC can take all the hard knocks that come with rallying.

The Polo R looks like a normal Polo and all the differences are under the bonnet. It is a small hatchback that is great for cities, towns, motorways and country roads because of its size. Volkswagen Polo is one of the best cheap cars for leasing available on the market. Cheap car leasing is available to help you get great cars for such low prices per month.
